Divided: 2024 New Year's Wishes

Something cute to end the year with, based off a sweet little event from Genshin last year- New Year's wishes from all of the Divided mains! Or, well, most of them.

Minor content warning for a teeny tiny bit of blood on the vampires' faces. Also alcohol intoxication, but all in good fun.

New Year is a special time for Peterans. It's a time of new beginnings and looking to the future and being hopeful. The Watcher isn't all-knowing and can't tell you what's to come, but whether what comes is good, bad, or in between, The Watcher will always be there to guide you through. I wish you all the best.

- Reynold

New Year's Resolution: focus more on charity work.

For me, it's hard to think about what's to come. All of the uncertainty weighs me down like an anvil, and it's hard to pretend that it doesn't. But all any of us can do is do our best to adapt. Fate has a nasty habit of throwing us terrible surprises whenever it gets the chance- but so far, after all we've endured, we're still here- so here's to another year of staying alive. Keep your loved ones close, and try to make the most of whatever moments of joy you find.

- Áine

New Year's Resolution: Read through more of my mother's tome, learn more about the wider world of magic, and hopefully resume teaching magic.

A new year is full of all sorts of opportunities- some of them may be a little terrifying at first, but sometimes you have to make that jump- sure, it could end in disaster, but it could also end in wondrous success- you don't know until you try! I mean, look at me! I tried to bring my business overseas, got my boat stolen, got framed and exiled...Well, I'm not selling it, am I? But look at me now, living in my own cosy cabin with a beautiful partner and an adorable owl, and let's not forget about what happened with Samuel. I say, seize any opportunity you get! It might not happen again!

- Kat

New Year's Resolution: It'd be nice to hire some people. I'd like to have a helper I can boss around- I mean, to help the customers!

Think of the new year as a fresh start. A time to try and look at yourself and the world around you, see what needs fixing, and work on it. It is a time for forgiveness and redemption, if you're lucky. Maybe it's too late to mend certain relationships, maybe some opportunities have passed you by and won't likely pass by again- but take this chance to try and resolve whatever is in your power to resolve.

- Gideon

New Year's Resolution: Try to do more recreational activities with my boys. We mostly just work, and I owe them a break.

Uhhh...Am I supposed to say something motivational? Will 'Happy New Year' do? No?

My advice in the new year? Trust your gut more often. Whether it's someone you like, or even love, or a situation that seems too good to be true- your instinct often knows best. It's easy to be fooled into thinking your own feelings and emotions are wrong or too much, but sometimes you have to just go with them. Like when I admitted my feelings to Dan, and now I can't imagine a life without him by my side. There. Will that do?

- Eli

New Year's Resolution: Chop wood. Sand wood. Varnish wood. Make signature dent in wood. Sell wood. Rinse and repeat. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll be able to fit some sleep in!

Every year, there are exciting new discoveries and advancements to be made. Even when all seems bleak, remember that there will always be progress, whether social, political, scientific...If there's one thing I always look forward to, it's thinking about what new advancements there will be next year. Whether it's something I'll discover, or someone else, it amazes me how quickly things change. To think that something incurable this year might be curable next year...Amazing, isn't it? I hope you will be blessed with many new discoveries. Also, don't bother asking my wife for anything motivational- she's on her sixth glass.

- Owen

New Year's Resolution: To save the lives of more patients, and continue to bury myself in my research as usual. I'd also like to get more in-touch with my magic, and whatever arcane histories that might be lurking in my family tree that Samuel might have never bothered to tell me about.

Henford's idea of celebrating a new year is incredibly boring, just so you know. Back when my parents were still alive, we had an amazing time. Days' worth of amazing food and celebrations! Not a moment of fireworks and a promise to make a change that'll last less than a...hic!...week. Let's see, motivational, motivational...Good luck...Dragon! That's it. Dragons are prosperous, aren't they? Owen already mentioned scientific discoveries...You know what, forget it. I'm getting another glass.

- Lydia

New Year's Resolution: We tried to ask her, but she was unconscious on the sofa after her seventh glass.

Josiah, why do you have to look so shy and awkward all of the time? I asked my brother if he'd do a speech in place of me, but of course he didn't, so now I have to think of one.

I think your main focus in the new year should be on family- whether that's the people you were born with, or the people that have otherwise always stuck by you. Whatever happens next year, they'll be who helps you get by. Sure, my brother gets on my nerves, sometimes Father, as well, but I wouldn't be who I am today without them- and I hope that, next year, we can spend some more time together that isn't fishing.

- Daniel

New Year's Resolution: Find a new job that does not involve fish, and maybe move out.

New Year's is a great time to be honest with yourself and to be brave about the most important thing- standing your ground when you need to. Realising you deserve better, and trying to make sure that you do. Not sticking with something that doesn't bring you happiness. If you can safely do any of these things, do them. People will try to get past your boundaries in any way they can, so keep them guarded. Happiness is easily lost, so do your best to keep your guard up.

- Clementia

New Year's Resolution: Try to focus more on myself and what I want...if I ever get the time to figure out what that is.

* * *

You think I'd be tired of new year celebrations, don't you? Of course not! I'm more than grateful for all the time that has been given to me, and whilst many others would tell you to work harder or be nicer- I say, give in to pleasures more often. Life is so often full of nothing but work and stress that it's easy to lose sight of life's little (and big) pleasures. So, partake in that hobby that gives you joy, eat that dessert you've been thinking about for a week, take the day off, whether you have the permission or not. Every new year brings something new to look forward to. Life is too short - for you, anyway - to live a life of constant misery. After all, you can't pour from an empty wine glass!

- Oskar

New Year's Resolution: Be just as fabulous as I was last year, and all years prior.

* * *

I tire of these celebrations. I've seen far too many years and they all start to blend into one, but I suppose I should share an old lady's wisdom with you. Take nothing less than you deserve. Bite back. Don't move out of the way for him. If the person you work for demands more out of you, demand more out of them in return. Don't apologise for standing your ground. Say no. And if you are unable to do any of these for whatever reason, then the solution is simple- destroy them. Destroy your enemies in whatever way you can. Temporary, permanently, well, that's up to you.

...What? What do you mean that isn't motivational? Fine. Do something nice for a family member. Smile at a passing child. If you have a dog or a cat, pet it lots. Live, laugh, love...Loathe...

- Violeta

New Year's Resolution: Work on my paintings, try to be a nicer person to nice people, kill more witchfinders, maybe even kill Volpe, if I'm lucky.

Wishing a happy and prosperous (or at least bearable) 2024 to all readers, and I hope you will find joy in what's to come. < 3
